Frequently Asked Questions

What's in your handmade goats milk soap?
We make all of our goats milk soap completely from scratch, using raw ingredients and recipes that we have created. All soaps are made with oils or fat, goats milk and sodium hydroxide (lye). We use Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, and Lard (animal fat) in our goats milk soap. There is over 1 ounce of goats milk in each bar. We try to locally source as much ingredients as we can!

We also use titanium dioxide and sodium lactate. Titanium dioxide provides a white pigment as our base is yellow and a whiter bases provides a better color pallette. Sodium lactate hardens cold process soap so you can unmold and enjoy it more quickly. It's a liquid salt derived from the fermentation of sugars found in corn and beets.

Is your goats milk soap really handmade?
Yes, our soap is really handmade by Lara! Our goats milk soap recipe starts from scratch, using goats milk from our own herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats. We start out by handmilking our goats, and then freeze the milk. Once the lye is dissolved in milk we mix that in with our oils, add the fragrance and colorant and then pour in our molds. The soaps are un-molded the day after they are made and placed on our curing rack for up to 6 weeks. Then they are ready for use.

Do you test your goat milk soap on animals?
We do not test any of our products on animals.

Do your soaps contain synthetic detergents?
We do not use any synthetic detergents in our soaps.

Do you have any goats milk soap for people allergic to fragrances?
We do have unscented soaps that are great it you are allergic to fragrance, work in a fragrance free work place or just prefer scent free!

Do you have any goats milk soap for people with sensitive skin?
Goats milk soap is excellent for sensitive skin. We usually suggest people start out with the unscented and then try some of our other scented soaps if the unscented works for you.

What's the size of your soap?
Our soap bars are about 4.5 to 5 ounces. Water evaporates as the soap cures, the older the soap the less water weight the soap bar contains.

Why is there discoloration on some of my bars?

Soda ash is an uneven, white, ashy film that can naturally occur on cold process soap bars. Soda ash is harmless but it can be ugly. It forms when unsaponified lye reacts with naturally occurring carbon dioxide in the air. It doesn’t affect the final bars and the soap is safe to use. We do our best to control soda ash, but it can also add a vintage hand made vibe to our bars that many customers enjoy!

Why is the color lighter or darker than my last bar?

Color consistency can be a challenge with cold process soap. Soap has a very high pH while it undergoes saponification, which can cause many colors to “morph” and change. Even slight temperature changes between batches can create a variance of color. Please know that slight color changes between batches is normal.

How long does a bar of your goat milk soap typically last?
Keep your soaps in a dry, ventilated area when not in use. By creating an ideal environment, your soaps will last far longer. In best conditions, this soap bar should last you 50 baths or showers!

What should I do to make my soap last longer?
To make your soap last longer you should let it dry out in between uses. Keep your soaps in a dry, ventilated area when not in use. Place it on a soap dish that drains for remove it from your shower area. If left wet you will get fewer uses out of it. You can also add on our soap saver loofah bag to exfoliate and quickly lather while in use and hang to dry in between uses.
